I am delighted that we have finally got the green light for a share of a £350 million fund for rail accessibility for Hedge End and Swanwick Stations. This is something I have been campaigning on since I was first elected in 2019.
The upgrade will benefit parents with disabled children, disabled adults and parents with pushchairs or prams who are currently unable to use Hedge End station to travel because there are no lifts, wheelchair or pushchair-accessible facilities at the station. Travellers or commuters with mobility issues will no longer be left in the unacceptable situation of being forced to alight at Southampton Airport, Eastleigh, Fareham or other stations towards Portsmouth for their return journey.
