I am absolutely delighted that our campaign to Save Southampton Airport has been successful.
In the early hours of Saturday morning and after a very drawn out debate, the plans to extend the runway at Southampton Airport were finally approved by Eastleigh Borough Council.
For many months, I have been championing this application and campaigning for the runway extension. I'd also like to pay tribute to the 3,604 people who signed my petition. Together, we made a clear case for the runway extension which meant that Eastleigh Borough Council had to make the right decision.
This is the right thing for our Airport, the right thing for our communities and the right thing for the hundreds and thousands of people whose job relies on the airport. With the future now secured, we can create more jobs and new opportunities for local people and businesses.
