It was great to meet with local farmers Flavian and Jamie to discuss the challenges and opportunities for the agricultural industry.
Supply chain fairness and the transition to UK agricultural policy from the EU have been and still are the main focus for farmers. It is clear that the Prime Minister has come out in full support for British agriculture and food production, particularly addressing food security concerns, but there is more work to be done to ensure that farmers see the many tangible policy shifts which will make British farming a profitable and sustainable industry.
Among the topics we discussed were problems many farmers have with entering the industry due to regulatory and financial barriers, as well as the positive impact that the Government's planning reforms are having on the sector to allow farmers to diversify their livelihoods.
I will be sure to raise these concerns and comments with Ministers so that we can continue to deliver better deals for and support for farmers.
