Today, on behalf of the British Government, the PM and Defence Secretary have apologised to LGBT personnel and veterans impacted by the ban on LGBT personnel between 1967-2000.
This is a huge recognition of the important role that LGBT personnel play in all branches of our armed services and beyond and I welcome the steps this Government has taken to make our defence service a place where people do not need to hide who they are.
As I say, I have seen the amazing work that all who serve in our armed forces are doing for our country as part of my time on the Armed Forces Parliamentary Scheme and I hope this apology will help the process of healing and recognition our LGBT defence staff and veterans deserve.
