Yesterday I had the pleasure of visiting the NCS experience at Fairthorne Manor. It was great to get a tour of the site and to listen to pitches from young people who had been tasked to come up with digital graphics that can be shown at Waterloo station in September and a short video clip that can be sent out to schools detailing why it is important to educate young people/children on railway safety.
I was asked to judge them on a panel with Network Rail representatives and was impressed with their pitches and the quality of work they produced.
The NCS brings young people together from different backgrounds to work together and teaches them what it means to be responsible and serve their communities. It is a high-quality personal development programme that gives young people a chance to prove to themselves and their peers what they can do. I think it is a great opportunity for all young people to take up and I strongly recommend the programme to anyone considering it.
